Accommodations
Columbia College provides equal access to education for all students. Students with documented disabilities, as defined by the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, are eligible for services. Accommodations are individual in nature and are decided on a case by case basis. Requested accommodations must be reasonable, must not create undue burden, and must be supported by adequate documentation.
Classroom Accommodations
- Typical classroom accommodations could include:
- Note-taking
- Tape recorded lectures
- Enlargements of handouts
- Adjustable chair/table
- Alternate textbook formats
- Special consideration for attendance due to the disability
Assistive Resources
Equipment is provided for on-campus use. All requests for auxiliary aides must be made through Disability Services. Resources available on campus may include:
- Book scanner
- Read software
- Enlargement software
- Screen reader software
- ASL interpreters
Examination Services
Examination services and accommodations are provided to ensure that evaluation methods represent the student's ability rather than their disability. Dependent on the nature of the course, disability and documentation, exam accommodations may include:
- Extended time
- Minimal-distraction environment
- Computers for essays
- Readers and/or scribes
