Dr. Terry B. Smith, Executive Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs, Professor of Political Science
Dr. Terry B. Smith has served as executive vice president, dean for Academic Affairs at Columbia College since 1996. He says his primary job is “to see that excellent faculty teach rigorous courses to qualified students.”
Smith graduated cum laude from Central Methodist College with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in English and history. He received both his master's degree and Ph.D. in political science from Michigan State University. He was selected as a Fulbright Scholar to England in 1991 and attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University in 2002.
He is an American politics enthusiast, teaches political science classes at the college and serves as a radio and television election analyst. He gives regular political commentary on a local radio station. Smith has been active in local community and professional organizations and is currently on the Education Committee of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the board of directors of the Paul D. Higday Mozart Music Trust which brings fine classical music performances to mid-Missouri.
Smith and his wife, Jane, have four grown children and six grandchildren.
