The work of a manager involves planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of a company. Within any organization, managers may direct authority for a staff management area (finance, public relations, and accounting) or line management area (manufacturing and sales). A manager also oversees the work of others by building cooperation and performance among workers.

Managers are employed in various sectors of the economy, such as government, education, or private industry.
