Main Campus Commencement

Graduates throwing CapsThe main campus hosts two commencement ceremony days each year at the end of each 16-week semester. These ceremonies are held in the Southwell Complex Gymnasium on the historic Columbia College campus in Columbia, Mo. The next two ceremony days are:

  • May 10, 2014
  • Dec. 20, 2014

There are two ceremonies held during May. The first one is held at noon and the second ceremony is at 3:30 p.m. Each ceremony is open to all master's, bachelor's and associate degree candidates who register and meet the eligibility requirements.  In December there will be only one ceremony.  It will take place at noon and be open to all master's, bachelor's and associate degree candidates who register and meet the eligibility requirements.

Students who are interested in participating in one of the main campus ceremonies are required to order their cap and gown via CougarTrack. The deadline for registration is approximately two months prior to the ceremony. Openings are limited for each ceremony, so early sign-up is recommended. The electronic order form is located under Academics and is titled "Application for Commencement Ceremony." If there are any questions about the commencement ceremonies, students may contact the evaluations department at (800)231-2391, ext. 7658 or (573) 875-7658, or their local campus.

If you have signed up to participate in a main campus commencement ceremony, please be aware that each main campus ceremony is streamed live on the Internet. By signing up for a main campus ceremony, you have agreed to participate in the live streaming.

The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes. See the commencement schedule for details.

The May ceremony includes the optional participation in Ivy Chain, one of the most traditional Commencement Week activities. The first Ivy Chain was held in 1900. Follow this link for more information and to sign up.

Students may alternatively participate at one of our many campus locations nationwide. Students may participate in both a main campus ceremony and/or a Nationwide Campus ceremony.
